Aris, eigentlich Aristotelis Vasileiadis, neugriechischer Schriftsteller und Essayist, * Petrograd 24. 11. 1922, ✝ Paris 2. 7. 1978; nahm am griechischen Widerstand gegen die Nazis teil und blieb zehn Jahre lang als Kommunist in politischer Haft. Sein seit den 1940er-Jahren veröffentlichtes lyrisches Werk (»Gedichte 1941-71«, 1972) wird der »Dichtung der Niederlage« zugerechnet. »Die Kiste« (1974; deutsch), sein einziger Roman, eine kafkaeske Parabel über die selbstzerstörerische Macht stalinistischer Strukturen, bezieht sich auf die Absurdität des griechischen Bürgerkrieges. Während der griechischen Militärdiktatur lebte Alexandrou in Paris im Exil. Er übersetzte zahlreiche Werke der russischen Literatur (u. a. Dostojewskij).
